August 23, 2012
Western Carolina University, Cullowhee, NC

Having performed themed recitals in the past, such as No Piano Required, Songs without Words, and an All-American recital, Dan Cherry, Associate Professor of Trombone and Euphonium, has decided to present a program of musical selections from European composers to open the Fall Semester for the WCU School of Music. There are a total of eight pieces on the recital, each representing a different country:

1. Denmark: Triomphale from Suite for Trombone by Axel Jørgensen
2. France: La Femme a Barbe from Des Tableaux Forains by José Berghmans
3. Netherlands: Rare from T-Bone Concerto by Johan de Meij
4. Sweden: Basta by Folk Rabe
5. Poland: Fantasy by Sigismond Stojowski
6. Austria: Liebesleid by Fritz Kreisler
7. Italy: Nessun Dorma from Turandot by Giacomo Puccini
8. Russia: Flight of the Bumblebee by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov

The first five selections on the program are original works for trombone, while the final three are borrowed from the violin, voice, and orchestral repertoires. The pieces were selected to represent a wide variety of styles and musical cultures as well as to provide an enjoyable listening experience for the audience.
